Hydraulic mosaic has been a popular cement-based material for covering floors and walls in Western Europe since 1867. My personal research project in Portugal was aimed at encouraging independent learning about this material among the public. While there, I had the opportunity to observe a master of the craft and conduct interviews with professionals who work with and use hydraulic mosaic in their spaces.
